Seven Years On The Web
|
Hi everyone,
Worked out the other day that I’ve had a website for nearly seven years, and it still doesn’t get any easier to make sure that it gets updated regularly. So I figured I was well overdue to get something up here, because the last couple of months have been fairly exciting and enjoyable. The 3p Sound Autos Tank has been cranking away nicely in the Stockcar class, while the 10p Brent Boddy Cars Superstock has also been charging on.
This weekend is the World 240’s in Rotorua, an event I haven’t done that well at over the years, but always enjoy attending. Last year I didn’t qualify, the year before I missed due to concussion, the year before ended on the first lap with rollcage damage, and I missed 2006 because of the Stockcar Teams Champs. Hopefully by winning the second tier event last year and qualifying directly for this years finals, my luck will change. I’ll still be in the action this Friday though, as the Tank is coming up with us and we’ll have a crack at the Bay of Plenty Stockcar Champs – should be good.
The weekend just gone saw the NZ Stockcar GP at Palmy, which turned into a classic Wellington vs Palmy battle, as all the major Stockcar championships seem to be these days. It was great to see some of the younger Palmy guys make the cut, and even better to see them eager to help out their trackmates in the third heat. Gary Davis, Gavin Taniwha, Josh Prentice and Jordan Dare did their best to get a Palmy car home, but Kane Hargreaves was just too good, and I couldn’t stop him either! Well done to Rob Miers on his second place too, was a good drive. Also amazing to see Bundy Hyslop keep it together and take third place. Special mention should go to Brett Lloyd for his organisation on the night, he has the makings of a team manager some day.
The North Island Superstock Champs at Meeanee was a few days beforehand, and that was a little more disappointing. The car struggled a bit with the average track, but I still ended up with third place. The lack of teamwork from the Palmy guys was noticeable, and that needs to change this weekend!
New Years Day at Palmy was one of the most fun meetings of the season, with the Tanker in fine form and plenty of on-track action. I probably needed to get some aggression out of my system seeing that the finals of the NZ Stockcar Teams Champs was rained out at Wellington. The Pumas were probably the happiest team with the rainoff, because we had the most work to do if we were to challenge for the title. The race against Auckland was pretty average to say the least, and we were lucky to qualify. At least we now know we have 2 and a half months to work out our tactics for the race against the Young Guns – thinking about it is keeping me awake at night already!
Can’t really remember what happened before Xmas but I know the Panthers got nailed by the Nelson Tigers at the start of December, and I took a good hit from Shane Harwood that did a couple of grands worth of damage, so that curtailed the Superstock racing for a couple of weeks. Also had a skid in Ernie’s two-seater at one meeting, which is now completed.
Anyway, best I get back onto it. There are plenty of unfinished cars in the shed for me to work on, but those that are out there are doing pretty well. The history page on the website has been updated too (over 80 new pictures apparently), and it looks pretty cool if you ask me.
Cheers, Pete |
